BirdingCentral User Manual - Managing Friends
Friends are a way to easily and quickly keep tabs on other users activities, including recent sightings and new life birds. Your friends also can see your sightings with a privacy level of 'Only my Friends.' Birding Central allows you to quickly and easily add and remove users from your friends list.
Manging Friends
There are several ways to manage your friends.
- You can add and delete users from your friends list from the manage friends page (found under the 'Friends' menu availalbe to logged in users). To add new users, start typing a user name in the box labeled 'Add a Friend'. As you type, a list of users that match what you've typed will appear as a drop down. You can select a user name from the drop down list and then press 'Add' to add the user to you friends list. To delete a user, simply click on the users name to delete it from your list. You must click 'Submit' to save changes to you friends list.
- As you browse Birding Central, you'll notice that each user will have a small icon after their username. This icon indicates their status on your friends list. If the user name is followed by a small yellow star, it indicates that user is already your friend. If the user name is followed by a green '+' symbol, it indicates that the user is not on your friends list, and that you can quickly add this user as a friend by clicking on the '+' icon. When you click on the icon, you will be taken to the manage friends page, and the user will be added as a friends. In this case, you do NOT have to click submit to save the change, unless you choose to add or delete other friends. You can simply click on the 'Return' link to navigate back to the page from which you added the friend. You should now note that the user has a star next to their name, indicating their status as your friend.
View your Friends List
You can quickly view a simple list of your friends by clicking on 'View List' under the 'My Friends' menu. This report lists each of your friends as a link which will take you to their home page. You can click on their life list (in parentheses following their username) to quicly view their life list report.
Recent Sightings by Friends
You can quickly view a report of your friends recent sightings by clicking on 'Recent Sightings' under the 'My Friends' menu. Sightings are listed in order of date, most recent first. You can click on any of the sightings to see more details.
Life Birds by Your Friends
You can quickly view a report of your friends newest life birds by clicking on 'Life Birds' under the 'My Friends' menu. The report shows all of the new life birds that each friend has reported in the previous one year period.
Friends of...
To see which users have listed you as a friends, click on 'I am Friends of....' link under the 'My Friends' menu. The report show all users that currently list you as a friend.
